Obituary of Russell James Dunleavey

Russell James Dunleavey passed peacefully on January 24th. He was born in Bridgeport, August 7, 1951, to Thomas Paul Dunleavey & Anna Reilly Dunleavey. A lifelong area resident, he attended St. Peter's Grammar School, Central High School, and graduated from Sacred Heart University. He was the owner of RJ Dunleavey, a painting and wallpaper company. A competitive sailor, he participated in numerous races, including The Bermuda Race and The Block Island Race. He enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved sisters, Janice Kikuchi (Karl) of Tucson, Arizona; Laureen Cuda (Barry)of Bridgeport; Anne Dunleavey Eisenman (Gerard) of Savannah, Georgia; Linda Dunleavey of Milford, and sister-in-law Deborah Dunleavey of Milford, along with many nephews and nieces and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol; brother, Paul; sister, Ellen Taira; and brother, Mark. The family wants to give special thanks to his friends Tom & Ruth Bruton, who were of tremendous help to him during the last few months.

Russell will be remembered for his warm heart, adventurous spirit, and the love he shared with his friends and family.

A service celebrating his life will be held on June 7th, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Fayerweather Yacht Club.
