Obituary of Audrey Beres
Audrey Maria Hoogenboom Beres, age 74, of Fairfield, wife of the late Frank Beres, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
Born in Valley Stream, NY, raised in Oceanside, NY, daughter of the late Martin and Johanna Bos Hoogenboom, Audrey spent most of her life in Connecticut. She was a Fairfield town resident for over 45 years. She spent most of her life as an educator and taught mathematics at Bassick High School in Bridgeport for over 35 years before retiring in 2015. Audrey also worked at the Bridgeport Adult Education Program for many years, helping people achieve their educational goals. An avid reader, she loved animals, the outdoors and was especially proud of her Dutch heritage.
Audrey was a staunch Democrat and passionate advocate for human rights who believed strongly in equality, education and access to healthcare for all. A kind and compassionate woman, Audrey will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, as well as for her desire to help others. She will be missed beyond measure.
Audrey is survived by her children: Alison Beres-Nork and her husband Jack of Bethany, Susan Beres and her husband A.J. Keirans of Shelton, and Frank Beres and his wife Tennessee Molineaux of Highland, NY. She leaves behind her precious grandchildren: Joseph and Melanie Beres; Evan, Hayden and Liam Nork; Trey and Daniel Keirans; and Richard Beres; a brother Ronald Hoogenboom and his wife Betsy of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces and nephews Neal, Margaret, Claire and Thomas; a brother-in-law Edward Laska and her dog Cosmo. She was predeceased by her son Scot Beres and sister-in-law Maureen Laska.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am directly at St. Emery Church, 838 Kings Hwy, Fairfield. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center.
