Obituary of Samuel A. Bastien

Samuel A. Bastien, III, age 83, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Glorissa "Bonnie" Santiago Bastien, entered into eternal life on October 14, 2017. Born in St. Louis, MO, to the late Samuel and Corinne Alexander Bastien, Sam was a graduate of St. Louis University, Class of 1955 with a BSEE. He was employed as a contract Electrical Engineer for a number of companies for twenty five years. Samuel was involved with many projects, including the Apollo Space Program, the Mace, Titan, Minuteman and Trident Missile projects, the Space Shuttle Orbiter, the B52 Aircraft, and the F16 Fighter. He was most proud of designing the steering control stick for the Lunar Landing Module used to land on the surface of the moon. After retiring from engineering, Sam went into real estate and started his own business, Bastien Real Estate. He was self-employed as a real estate broker for thirty seven years. He enjoyed sailing, gardening, photography, and his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. He took great pleasure in Judo and Karate, both of which he earned a black belt. Samuel was also a hunter and a member of Toastmasters International. In addition to his devoted wife, Bonnie, Samuel's memory will be lovingly remembered by his seven children, Samuel A. Bastien, IV, and his wife, Suzanne, of Saratoga Springs, NY, Steven B. Bastien, and his wife, Laura, of Waterford, N. Richard Bastien, of Raleigh, NC, Bruce A. Bastien, and his wife, Sue, of Fairfield, Yvonne L. Zeisler, and her husband, Steve, of Fairfield, Bradley L. Bastien, and his wife, Suzanne, of Lake Worth, FL, and Lisette M. Enhoffer, and her husband, Eric, of Fairfield; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and fourteen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, MaryAnn Bastien Kneese, of St. Louis, MO; a brother, John Richard Bastien, of St. Louis, MO; and his mother-in-law, Col. Gloria C. Rojas, US Army Vet. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield.
