Obituary of Lillian Kuhn
Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lillian A. Kuhn, age 74, of Fairfield, passed away on January 2, 2018 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones. She had briefly been placed on hospice care.
Born to the late Adrien Choiniere and Cecile Vincent, of Barre, VT, Lillian's parents relocated to Bridgeport at an early age. Later, her family moved to Fairfield. She graduated from Andrew Warde High School, Class of 1961. It was in high school that Lillian met the love of her life and soulmate, the late Roger K Kuhn (Kuhn's Corner Family Restaurant). He was the center of her universe, the one and only man she would ever know. After dating for six years, the two got married. A marriage that last 52 years until Roger's passing on February 26, 2016. She'd often brag that they were each other's first for everything.
Lillian and Roger were inseparable and did everything together. She adored him and loved being his wife. Later she loved being the mother of their three children, Denise, Roger, Jr., and Michele. Lillian was very active in the PTA and was a headroom mother. She filled the garage with Girl Scout Cookies when her daughters were involved in Scouts. Shuttled her kids to dance classes, little league, etc… It was common to hear friends say, "I wish I had your parents." For Lillian, summer vacations were the most anticipated time of year. Her in-laws, the late Gaspar (Gus) and Elizabeth (Betty) Kuhn, of Kuhn's Corner Family Restaurant in Fairfield, began a tradition. Every year the whole family would go up to Toby's located in Plymouth, NH. This multi-generational destination was home base with nearby attractions like Clark's Trading Post, Santa's Village, Story Land, Polar Caves, and Weir's Beach.
Who could forget trips downtown to the diner, Anderson's Bakery, or J.J. Newberry's or lazy summer days lakeside with Joe and Ezster. More vacations took place to Niagara Falls, Maine, and Marshfield, MA, where Lillian's sister, Rita, and her husband, Vernon Whitlow lived with their daughters, Veronica, Kathy, Kim, and Norma. Whether it was a beach day of fishing off the pier or backyard cookouts, it was like heaven. And who could forget all the laughing. The children were kept awake all night by the laughter. Lillian and Roger also hosted many parties and holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas where all were welcome, family or not.
Lillian is survived by her three children, Denise Kuhn, of Woburn, MA, and her children Ilana, Shoshana, and Nathaniel, Roger K. Kuhn, Jr., of Fairfield, and his son, Ethan, and Michele Kuhn, of Scottsdale, AZ.; her late brother, Morris Choiniere, of Doverfoxcroft, ME, his sons, Chris and Paul Choiniere; her sister, Rita Whitlow, and her husband, Vernon, of Christianburg, VA and their daughters, Veronica, Kathy, Kim, and Norma; her brother-in-law, Richard Kuhn, and his wife, Nancy, and their daughter, Keri Lynn; Richard's first wife, Phylis, and daughters, Darlene and Dawn; late nephew, Dean Kuhn; her late sister-in-law, Gail Divorsky, and her sons, John, Tim, and Brandon; brother-in-law, Ronald Kuhn; and a brother-in-law, Keith Kuhn, and his children, Joe, John Tammy Lynn, his wife Dina and daughter Ashley. There are countless friends that were like family to her, including Gerry and Ernie Descheneaux, and their children, Corine, Bobby, Cheryl, and Ernie; and many many more.
