When I think about Aunt Hope, what comes to mind first is her laugh. She always made you feel you’d surprised her with a very clever anecdote with her wonderfuly sudden, hiccupy laugh, often accompanied by a tear to be wiped away.
Though I didn’t see her very often, Hopie was a warm and steady presence in my life, as she was for so many others. When I did see her, she always knew what to ask or follow up on, showing she paid attention and she cared- no matter how great the distance. And she did this with a lack of judgement that made answering her easy.
Hope and Bob’s home has always been a comforting time-warp of memories, photos, dolls, laughter, voices, and glimpses of holidays gone by. It won’t be the same without her, but she’s all throughout it ... as she’s in each of us who ever knew her and can picture her smile, or hear her teary laugh. I’m so glad to have that.
I send my love to Uncle Bob, and to Charity, Mandy, Flip and all the grandkids. I’m thinking of you all and wish I could be there with you.
