Obituary of Louis Barabas
Louis Barabas, age 82, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Klara Varga Barabas, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 while on vacation in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Born in Hungary on July 22, 1935, son of the late Joszef and Rozalia Marton Barabas, and came to the United States in 1956. He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962 during the Berlin Crisis and became a Fairfield Town resident in 1964. Louis had worked for the Dresser Industries Co. for many years as until his retirement.Louis was very athletic, he was competitive in bicycle racing, swimming, soccer, skiing and bowling. Proud of his Hungarian heritage, he took great care of his home and beloved garden and especially enjoyed sharing his garden with family and friends. He was passionate about helping others with anything they needed.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. In addition to Klara, his devoted wife of 68 years, he leaves behind his daughters, Kathy Beck and her husband Curtis Cocco of Fairfield and Eva Barabas of Chester Springs, PA, grandchildren Stephen Beck of Charlotteville, VA, Kimberely Beck of Boynton Beach, FL and Jessica Cocco and Curtis Cocco Jr., both of Milford, a brother Frank Barabas and his wife Carlene of East Haven, a sister Zsuzsa Barabas Konrad of Hungary as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am in the United Church of Christ, corner of North and Laurel Avenues, Bridgeport. Military honor will be observed after the church service and his interment will be private.
