Obituary of Stephen J. Mygodney

Stephen J. Mygodney, age 92, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Gertrude Preg Mygodney, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Born and raised in Westport, son of the late John and Anastasia Guida Mygodney, Steve lived in Westport and Fairfield for most of his life. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He had worked for the Dictaphone Corporation for nearly 30 years, he also worked on the Hubbell Telescope project and most recently for the NAPA Auto parts of Norwalk for 17 years until his recent retirement. Mr. Mygodney was a longtime parishoner of St. Emery's Church and belonged to the VFW Post 399 of Westport. In his youth, Steve played semi-pro football and was an avid San Francisco 49'ers fan. Steve enjoyed gardening and loved animals. More than anything, Steve enjoyed the times that he spent with his family. In addition to Gert, his loving wife of 63 years, he leaves behind his son, Stephen Emery Mygodney and his wife Heidi of Newtown, his grandchildren Emery and Brianna Mygodney, nieces and nephews John Virag and his wife JoAnn, Betty Ann Vida, Judy Vida Burke, Michael Preg, Edward Bela, Mary Ann Quick, Jane Wygodni, Patricia Glersen and Helen Sheline and her husband Calvin as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am directly at St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Hwy, Fairfield with burial to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center.
