Obituary of J. Donaldson Paxton
J. Donaldson Paxton, age 93, devoted husband of Nancy Payne Paxton, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on May 9, 2018.
In addition to Nancy, his loving wife of 72 years, Don's memory will be embraced by his children, Carol Esposito, of Branford, Pamela Maria and her husband George, of Portland, ME, William Paxton, of Chatham, MA, Julia Seeber and her husband Edward Kemp, of Stratford; grandchildren, Christina Esposito, Catherine Esposito, Hannah Paxton, Emma Paxton, Kate Paxton, and David Seeber; great grandchildren, Rebecca, Adelaide, and Joleigh Gerard. He will also be remembered fondly by his amazing caregivers, Jennifer Silverstein, Rudeisha Benbow, and Sophia Clarke.
Born and raised in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Don was the son of the late William and Marion Paxton. After proudly serving in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Hancock in the Pacific during World War II and attended the University of Bridgeport, Don began a lifelong career in banking. He was a retired Vice President and branch manager for Connecticut National Bank.
Don was accomplished with many activities including sailing, skeet and trap shooting, bird carving, and bowling. He believed in giving back to his community and did so as a volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital, being a past member of the Fairfield Rotary Club, and was a long time blood donor. He was also a member of the Fairfield Beach Club and former member of Pequot Yacht Club and Aubichwi Gun Club. He cherished the time spent with his family and friends, and was especially fond of the many memories made while summer vacationing on Lake George.
His memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, May 18th at 11 AM in Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, in Fairfield, where military honor will also be observed. His interment will be held privately in Mountain Grove cemetery.
