Obituary of Leah M. Boland
Leah M. Boland, age 81, a longtime resident of the Black Rock Community and devoted wife of 47 years to the late Thomas Boland, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021.
Leah will be lovingly remembered by her family including her children, Mark Boland and his wife Cheryl of Ansonia, Michelle Blake and her husband Dan of Newport RI, Christopher Boland and his wife Megan of Stratford; her cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Jonathan Blake, James and Jack Boland, Jessica Kusha; her great grandchild, Julia Kusha; her brother, William Schaffer of VA; several nieces and nephews; her grand dog TT; several dear friends and their children, each of whom Leah treated as if her own.
The daughter to the late Henry and Ruth Wolfer Schaffer, Leah was born in Hartford. After graduating from Bassick High School in 1959, she began a 25 year career with People's Bank, and retired as a manager in the ATM department. In addition to raising her family and career, Leah was very active in her community. She was the Past President of the Saint Ann's Mother's and Parent's clubs, where she was also a former member of the lay advisory board and lay minister. She coached neighborhood children for Saint Ann softball and the Black Rock Little League, was a Past President of the Black Rock Seniors, and a helpful member in the Black Rock Community Council. She embraced her time spent with family and friends, especially enjoying holiday gatherings, and touched many people throughout her life.
Calling hours will be held on April 2nd, Friday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place in Saint Ann Church, Black Rock on April 3rd, Saturday at 1030 AM with her interment to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
