My most sincere condolences to Joanne and Andrew and Chris's whole family and many, many friends. I didn't have the distinct privilege of knowing him, a sad loss for me. The beautifully written obituary describes a man so very much worth knowing. His mom, Joanne, is a good friend of mine, and I can see much of her in Chris's description. Joanne and Andrew, may your extraordinary son rest in peace and live forever in the memories of all who knew and loved him.

I met Chris while going to college at Western in Bellingham. We were both biology majors and shared a few classes together. Once we met, we quickly became friends and started hanging out. We’d spend our time philosophizing about evolution, watching baseball or talking about girls. All our conversations included his habit of pulling on his chin and smoothing his mustache, and his hearty laughter. He introduced me to disc golf, and we always found a game as good excuse to procrastinate doing homework. One of my best owl encounters was from when we were playing golf and a young barred owl swooped down out of the trees and landed on one of our discs. After awhile, the owl would fly up back into a tree and land next to its parent. We’d toss another disc, and it would swoop down again and land on top of it. We thought it was the coolest thing. I still have the discs and special disc golf bag he gave me. I graduated and moved away, and Chris stayed to attend grad school. Our lives sent us to different locales, but over the many years we stayed in touch and saw each other occasionally. I always thought we’d eventually end up in the same town and get to hang out on a regular basis again. We collaborated in school on an assignment about Red-winged blackbirds, and I always hoped we’d some day write a real research paper together. I last saw him about two years ago — we had some beers at the Pourhouse in Port Townsend, WA where we caught up on each other. He told me about the girl he loved and about some really interesting work he was doing protecting endangered desert tortoise. It was a great visit between two good friends. These pics are from 1998 or 99 when Chris and his friend Grove and I went on a 3 day camping trip. That’s Mt. Baker between the two of us, and I think that’s Mt. Shuksan behind Chris. We’re probably talking about the Yankees and the Mariners. I will always miss him. His passing is another reminder to stay genuine, and every day give everything you got. My condolences to his family and everyone who knew him.

Chris "Bug"....a fantastic friend,as a neighbor out in this corner of Washington state,he'd be over regularly for coffee,meals,conversations...and would help with my flower business, whether decorating the casino at 2a.m. For Christmas,or making 25 boutoneers and floral dog collars for weddings, always bringing humor to the scene! ANOTHER east coast Deadhead I could relate to!! You will find him in nature...he's there...big love my friend!

Chris was wonderful. We went to high school together but didn’t know each other then. We bonded over the Grateful Dead shortly after high school, and won a sandcastle contest together (along with Steve Hubregson) at Penfield Beach in the summer of 1988. These photos are from that summer. He was so focused when building that sandcastle. You can see it in the photo of his long frame bent over the sandcastle, patiently moistening the sand with a spray bottle. We lost touch, but I always remembered him as a truly kind soul. Such a loss. My very sincere condolences to all of his loved ones, of which I am sure there are many. Dr. Jill Silos

Our family has lost one of the sweetest, kindest human beings God ever sent to earth. I'll always remember
Chris coming to see Maggie her first day home. He brought her a gift, his blue diaper pins, then turned to his mother and asked "why did Auntie Marilyn bring home a Chinese baby?". There are so many things I have been remembering over the last week, watching him play and swim at Penfield and wondering where he was going on the Sunfish. Sledding on Sturges hill calling "Thuthan" bring back the sled. That was the first time I heard his lisp and fell in love with it -- Though I haven't seen or spoken with him in several years, I miss him. Chris, give The Finster, a nickname you gave him, a hug and kiss for me. I love you my "chicken legs" Auntie Marilyn
