Obituary of John Holzbauer

John Holzbauer, age 83 of Fairfield, husband of Joan Gordon Holzbauer, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Francis and Anna Czismadia Holzbauer, John had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School, " Class of 1953 ". He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vulcan and the USS Hyades. John had been a fireman for the Fairfield Fire Department and later worked for the Frank Holzbauer Plumbing and Heating Co and finally as a plumber for the Fairfield Board of Education until his retirement. He belonged to the Plumbers Union Local 173, the American Legion Post 143 of Fairfield, the Catholic War Vets Post 1433 of Bridgeport, the Port V National Association of Naval Veterans, the Navy League of Bridgeport and has his picture enshrined in the Navy memorial in Washington, DC. He was a longtime parishoner of St. Emery's Church. John coached the Consumers Little League team of Fairfield, he enjoyed Duckpin Bowling with the Big Six League, he played Bocci in the Fairfield Bocci League and enjoyed gardening. In addition to Joan, his wife of sixty years, he leaves behind his sons, David Holzbauer of Stratford and Ronald Holzbauer of Fairfield, granddaughters Melissa and Casandra Holzbauer and a great-grandson Christopher Towne as well as a nephew Allen Sanka and a niece Nancy Sanka. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his son, Kurt and sister Patricia Sanka. Funeral services will be held on Friday Directly at 11 am in St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Hwy, Fairfield with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center.
