Obituary of Joseph E. Mahoney

Joseph E. Mahoney, age 85 of East Dennis MA and Southport CT, devoted husband of Linda Kaplan Mahoney, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Born and raised in Belmont, MA, Joseph was one of ten children of the late Andrew and Margaret Meehan Mahoney. He resided in Pittsburgh, PA and Gainesville, FL before settling in East Dennis, MA, a place he loved dearly. After proudly serving his country in the US Army, he attended both UMass and American International College (AIC), ultimately graduating from AIC. He excelled in football as both a tight end and defensive end and earned a tryout with the Denver Broncos. After moving on from football, he built a successful business career as a salesmen of water well and blast mining drills and equipment, an industry that he loved until his retirement. He was the head of sales and a co-founder of Driltech, a successful drilling company. Joe lived an active life, enjoying exercise, maintaining his home and snorkeling for sea clams at the Cold Storage Beach. He was part of the social fabric of his community, supporting the Barnstable County Sheriffs Department and a loved member of his towns breakfast counters and pubs. In addition to Linda, his loving wife of over 50 years, he leaves behind his son, Justin Mahoney and his wife Diana of Westport, a grandson Joseph (Jose) Mahoney, brothers and sisters Mary, Nancy, Andy, Tom and Ed as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Jean, Helen, Jack and Jim.
