Obituary of Rose Antal Sabre

Rose Antal Sabre, age 98, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Joseph Sabre, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017 in her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Fairfield on May 30, 1918, daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Kok Antal, Rose was a lifelong Fairfield town resident. Rose and Joe raised two sons, James and Robert. She worked with her husband running J. Sabre Trucking Company and Sabre's Fuel and helped her son Robert with gas receipts for his Arco Station. Rose was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Church, a member of the Holy Family Rosary Society as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Miamogue Yacht Club. Rose enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, sewing and taking care of her family and home. She was always helping others. Rosie was just a phone call away to help you. A loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include her sons James Sabre and his wife Barbara of NC, Robert Sabre and his partner Wendy Wannagot of Fairfield; grandchildren James Sabre and his wife Joanne of Southbury, Chris Sabre and his partner Trish of Branford; great-grandchildren Samantha, Kristina and Anthony Sabre; nieces Nancy Uhrynowski and her husband Paul of Shelton, Linda Smey and her husband Steve of Bridgeport; nephews Stephen Antal of VA, Albert Deak and wife Cathy of Fairfield, Michael Antal of FL, John Vetrosky of TN, Lenny Sabia of Fairfield, Frank Sabia of FL, Richard Sabia and his wife Judy of NM and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her brothers Stephen, Andrew and Frank Antal and her sisters Elizabeth Vetrosky and Mary Deak. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 1st at 9:15 a.m. at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 31st from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. We would like to thank her caregiver, Amy, for the exceptional care, dedication and love that she gave to Rose the past three years.
