Obituary of Madelyn Mary Mainiero

Please share a memory of Madelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Madelyn Mary Mainiero, 63, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep November 10, 2021.  Madelyn was born, raised, and was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Madelyn enjoyed and pursued education at every turn of her life. After attending high school at Lauralton Hall, Madelyn graduated with a BS from Central Connecticut State University. She went on to graduate from the distinguished St. Vincents Medical Center program and pass the notoriously difficult Medical Technologist Certification. Next, she earned a coveted position at Yale University in their research center.  During her tenure, Madelyn co-published 2 research papers with innovative techniques. Following her time at Yale, Madelyn worked at Bridgeport Hospital as a medical technologist in various departments, all of whom benefitted from her skills and care. Her love of education led her to follow in her mothers footsteps and pursue a change of career.  She went back to school full time for her Masters in Education at Sacred Heart, while working part time at St. Andrews.  She graduated with a 4.0 and honors.

In her years as a teacher she taught science to 6th and 7th graders at Middlesex Middle School in Darien,CT; Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY; and most recently retired from Cloonan Middle School in Stamford, CT.  Each school was enriched by her knowledge, dedication, and love for her students, her “kids”.

Madelyn found joy in everything and brought joy to all she did.  The family lake house in Woodstock, CT provided her with one of her greatest titles: Dock Mom.  Her ability to provide safety and fun and love will forever be missed.  She loved to garden and had an innate ability to bring even the saddest plants back to life.  One of her greatest talents was that of host.  She made every event and holiday, big or small, into an unforgettable occasion.  Guests would show up feeling blessed to have been invited and leave feeling fulfilled. She was the magic.

Madelyn will be remembered with love by her husband of 39 years, Leonard Nicholas Mainiero, Junior, her daughter Christina Hudson, son-in-law Joshua Hudson, granddaughter Eliana Hudson, son Leonard Nicholas Mainiero III, brother Robert Buccino and sister-in-law Gail Buccino. Madelyn is predeceased by her beloved father and mother, Joseph and Dolores Buccino.

Calling hours will be held in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield on Sunday from 12 PM to 3 PM with a prayer service at 2 PM. All other services will be private.
