Obituary of Peter G. Gorman

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peter G. Gorman, age 76, beloved husband of Grace Guion Gorman, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 in his wife’s arms after a 14-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

In addition to Grace, his wife of 53 years, he will be remembered by: His daughters Laura Gorman (Mark) Riley and Meghan Gorman Hessel of Fairfield CT; His son, Brian P. Gorman of NYC; His eight grandchildren, Joey, Jack & Catherine Potenza, Jocelyn & Tessa Riley and Christopher, Cole & Caroline Hessel; His siblings Rosemary (Jim) Guerin, John (Cheryl) Gorman Jr. and Jean-Marie Gorman as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth O’Hara Gorman & John Coleman Gorman and son-in-law, Stephen C Hessel.

Peter was born on July 16, 1945 in Rockville Centre, NY.  He grew up in Oyster Bay Cove and attended St Dominic's High School. Peter went on to study architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.  Peter and Grace settled in Manhasset, NY to raise their family. Peter was a gifted architect and a founding partner of BBG/BBGM, headquartered in NYC, with offices in DC, Atlanta, Scottsdale, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Sydney. Many of their projects received critical acclaim for their stunning, innovative design and restorations, most notably:  The Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok Thailand, The Sofitel Hotel and The St Regis Hotel in NYC,  The Jakarta Stock Exchange, and Mohegan Sun Casino.

Peter was an avid sailor who loved to sail close to the wind. He spent summers on his sloop (Clear Day) surrounded by friends and family cruising the Long Island and Nantucket sounds.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  His family takes comfort in knowing that he has now let out his sails and is on a broad reach for home.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 S Pine Creek Rd, Fairfield. Internment at Oak Lawn Cemetery will immediately follow.
