Obituary of Brown Stafford Mantz

Stafford Mantz Jr., nearly 96 years of age, formerly of Jamaica, Vermont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Born in NYC son of the late Stafford Mantz Sr and Barbara McPherson Kennedy Mantz, he was raised in Manhasset, New York, he fulfilled his dream of living in Vermont during his retirement years before moving to Connecticut to be around his children five years ago. Mr. Mantz was a Veteran of WWII, serving as a US Navy pilot, seeing combat during bombing missions over Japan. He later graduated from Babson College under the GI Bill with a Bachelor's Degree in Administration. He spent his working life in marketing and advertising, most recently for Shulton Industries and American Cyanamid. Stafford was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed skiing, camping, fishing, tennis and running. He ran long before the marketing of running shoes. Along with his love for health and fitness he was very fond of his pet fellow yellow labrador retrievers. Stafford is survived by his children, Timothy Mantz of Fairfield, Theodore Mantz of Monroe, Barbara LaValle and her husband Robert of Easton and Elizabeth Greene and her husband Leonard of Costa Rica, grandchildren Jessica Calhoun, John Mance, Paul Mantz and Sam Mance, Elizabeth Morrison, Barbara Hoffman, Michael LaValle, Jesse Greene, Sarah Jacobs, Warren and Theodore Mantz and William and Katie Mantz and a niece Diana Matthews. He was predeceased by his son, John Mance and sister Esther Matthews. Private graveside services were held at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown Connecticut.
