Obituary of Sophie Eles

Sophie Grabowski Eles, age 94, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late James J. Eles, Sr., entered into eternal life on January 19, 2022. Born in Bridgeport to the late Anthony and Frances Zera Grabowski, Sophie had been a longtime area resident. She loved to read and cook and was a member of Fitness 4000 where she enjoyed Aquatics. Sophie took great pleasure in giving back to her community where she volunteered at Cambridge Manor and was a member of the St. Emery Ladies Guild, Sultana, the International Order of Alhambra, and El Poder. Sophie's memory will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia Gasper, and her husband, Jay, of Fairfield and Victoria Teixeira, and her husband, Ronald, of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Arlene Gasper, Annelise Brooks, and her husband, Herbert, Jay Gasper, and his wife, Jacqueline, Rachael Teixeira, and Marcy Teixeira; great-grandchildren, Ella Teixeira, Ava Teixeira, Arianna Brooks, and Elijah Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, James, and her parents, Sophie was predeceased by a son, James Eles, Jr.; and her siblings, Tess Niestemski, Stephen Grabowski, Walterina Arnold, and Helen Niestemski. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Highway E., Fairfield, with interment to follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
