Obituary of Antonio DeVito

Please share a memory of Antonio to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Antonio (Tony) DeVito, age 84, of Fairfield, passed away on June 24, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born in Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, Italy, Tony left home at 16 to find work. This brought him to many places around the world; Venezuela, Argentina, Switzerland, and then back home to Italy where he found his bride of almost 60 years, Carmela. She pre-deceased him in August of 2018, and life was never the same.

Throughout his life, Tony liked to say that he had "hands of gold." He was a master carpenter and owned his own construction company for 35 years. He spent much of his time doing projects in his yard, and loved traveling to his homes in Greenville, NY, and Englewood, FL.

He was incredibly dedicated to his family, especially his devoted daughters and sons-in-law who were like sons to him: Sina and Matt Binkowitz and Millie Antoniette and Scott Pollack and four beloved grandchildren who could do no wrong in his eyes: Alexa and Christopher Binkowitz and Mia and Anthony Pollack. He will be incredibly missed by his best friend, Molly, whom he rescued three years ago. The family would like to thank his in-home aides, Lucille, Rose and Sandra for the compassionate care that they provided to "their" Tony. He was the son of the late Vito DeVito and Tommasina Cetta, brother of Lucia, Gaetana, Carmela and the late Giuseppina. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Friends may greet the family at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, on Thursday, June 30th, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. His mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 S. Pine Creek Road, Fairfield on Friday, July 1st at 12:00 p.m. with the entombment to be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you raise a glass of wine or plant a fruit-bearing tree in his memory, as Tony would have preferred.
