In addition to her beloved wife, Linda A. Krause, Sarah was predeceased by her parents John J. Cotter and Mary G. Cotter, her siblings Anne Cotter Coles, and William L. Cotter and nephew William Leland Cotter II, and brother-in-law, Thomas Sheehan.

The second daughter was born to John J. Cotter and Mary L. Cotter on July 9, 1953. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart School, MaryMount Junior College, University of Vermont, Fanny Allen Memorial School of Nursing, University of Bridgeport School of Nursing, then she joined St. Vincent’s Hospital as a midwife of many years and then devoted over 31 years of being VNA before retiring.

Known to her siblings as "Sara," and “Ra-Ra” to her nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, she created a home not only for her family but friends and the many animals at Sara’s Farm. An Easter gathering was attended annually by all and in true Sara fashion she hosted hayrides, pony rides, baby chicks, ducks, goats and not to forget the birth of lambs every winter ready to greet the family at Easter.  Many times, Sara would bring her farm to you; whether it was show and tell at school, her patients, or sneaking them into work, she always wanted to make others smile. The farm was her happy place but her passion was caring for her patients. She was a remarkable example of a generous person who did anything for anyone, with no questions asked. A care giver by choice and at heart. Sara was a compassionate, loving and loyal person, who always put others before herself. Sara had many roles in her life, she was a nurse, farmer and friend, but most importantly she was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, second mother and wife. As someone said, “She was a gem and one of a kind, a caring nurse that would give you the shirt off her back, make you laugh with her crazy stories, and a wonderful human that won’t be forgotten.”
