Obituary of Sylvia Smiley Rosenthal

Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sylvia Smiley Rosenthal, age 98, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully in Jewish Senior Services of Bridgeport.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Rose and John Landberg, her sister and brother-in-law Louise and Art Raye, her brother Noah Landberg, two devoted husbands, Leonard Smiley and Fred Rosenthal, and daughter-in-law Maxine Smiley.

Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her son Allan Smiley, daughter Suzanne(Artie) Weissman, stepchildren Alan(Jeanne) Rosenthal,Gary Rosenthal, Sheree(Michael) Cohen, Grandchildren Adam (Sarah) Smiley, Lee (Sarri) Weissman, Brett(Michelle) Smiley, step grandchildren Elisa(Gio) Merone, Robbie(Erica)Rosenthal, Noah Rosenthal, Ethan Cohen, 6 great grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.

Sylvia always wished she attended college like her mother, but couldn’t because of the depression.  She had a successful career with the state of NY.  Sylvia lived in CT for over her last 10 years and was beloved at both Tower One and the Jewish Home.  She was one of the most active residents.  She even worked in the mailroom at the Jewish Home until last week, where her children  witnessed her fantastic work.  She recently joked about wanting a raise.

Sylvia took great care of her appearance, and was always planning her next days’ outfits and jewelry.  She was forever losing her non- pierced earrings and kept Amazon in business! Sylvia was known and loved by everyone at the Jewish Home, and as she said, “If you have to be in one of these places, this is the best!” She will be terribly missed by her family and friends!

Her graveside committal service will be held on Sunday, October 16th, at 11 AM in Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Avenue, West Babylon, NY.

Donations can be made to Jewish Senior Services, 4200 Park Ave. Bridgeport CT 06604. For directions or to sign her guest registry, please visit www.LeskoPolkeFuneralHome.com
