Obituary of Veronica Atanase

Veronica (Ronnie) Pittu  Atanase, age 98, of Trumbull, wife of the late Vasel Atanase, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Veronica was born in Bridgeport on July 8, 1924. Daughter of the late Spiro and Domnica Tsiculy Pittu, Ronnie had lived in Bridgeport for many years before residing in Trumbull.

Mrs. Atanase had worked as a secretary for the Bridgeport Housing Authority for many years until her retirement. She had been a devoted member of St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, a past President of the Church Ladies Auxiliary group, a willing volunteer for the church festival and the founder of the the "Take A Chance" Chinese Auction. Ronnie enjoyed bowling in her younger years, she liked music and dancing, playing cards with her family and friends, as well as playing her favorite daily numbers.

Survivors include her daughters, Catherine Crowell, of Stratford, and Patricia Shevlin, and her husband, Timothy, of Merritt Island, Florida; grandchildren, Andrea Stegner, and her husband, Craig, Erica Jaoude, and her husband, Joseph, Timothy Shevlin, Jr., and Kelly Shevlin; great-grandchildren, Camden, Riley, Parker, and Richard Glenn; her beloved sister, Julie Pittu Cipu; a special nephew, Vasil (Chubby) Batsu; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her son, John Atanase; siblings, Rita Pittu Batsu, Dennis Pittu, Eleanor Pittu Zingo, and Vasil Batsu; and her son-in-law, Glenn Crowell.   

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 11:00 am directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton, with the Rev. Father George M. Coca officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Arrangements in the care of the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dimitrie Church or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Ronnie's family would like to thank the Staff of the Maefair Health Care Center and Athena Hospice for the care that she received during her stay.
