Obituary of Frank Onder

Frank John Onder, age 94, of Fairfield, husband of Marion Onady Onder, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Frank was born in Fairfield, son of the late Michael and Barbara Lovincz Onder and remained for his entire life, retiring as a Sergeant from the Fairfield Police Department, serving 31 years. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Korea from 1950 to 1952. Frank was very active in youth sports, organizing activities for both boys and girls. He was one of the founders of Fairfield Little League and also coached. Frank has served on the Board of Directors of the Police Athletic League, Little League, Jr. Pro Basketball, and the Police Explorers and had been the treasurer of each. Frank played baseball for Roger Ludlowe High School, St. Emery's, Fairfield Townies, Cardinals, St. James Romanian, Red Devils and the White Eagles in the Bridgeport Senior City League, Stamford Pioneers (Colonial Minor League) Watertown Jeffs, New York and Pine Camp, New York. He was a member of the American Legion Post 74 and was also a former Elder of the Calvin United Church of Christ, Fairfield. In addition to Marion, his loving wife of 67 years, Frank is survived by his daughters, Laura Fazekas, and her husband, John, of Shelton, Nancy Onder, of Orange, and Susan Onder, of Valley Center, CA; granddaughters, Sara Fazekas (Jeremy) and Amy Fazekas (Rick), all of Seymour. Also survived by two precious great-granddaughters, Hailey and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Missy for her devoted care. He was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Farina, Barbara Castorina, and his niece, Janis Castorina. Frank was a born and bred Fairfielder, followed his baseball passion, served his country, joined the Fairfield Police, got married, had a family, retired from police department, continued to serve Fairfield, and just recently retired from community service. Goodbye Frank, you will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 10:15 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center and at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvin United Church of Christ, 901 Kings Highway East, Fairfield, with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
