Obituary of Alan P. Goldbecker

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alan Paul Goldbecker, age 80, passed away on February 19, 2023, at his home in Easton, CT. Born in Yale New Haven Hospital to Wilma Newberg Goldbecker and Paul Joseph Goldbecker on April 30,1942, the family lived in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, where he attended Black Rock Grammar School, which he graduated from in 1956, and matriculated to Hopkins School in New Haven, CT. Upon graduation from Hopkins, he entered Hamilton College where he graduated in 1965. While at Hamilton, he followed a liberal arts curriculum with an emphasis on Economics and was a member for the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Alan loved sports and played football at Hopkins and ice hockey at both Hopkins and Hamilton College. During summers he participated in tennis, swimming and sailing at Black Rock Yacht Club (BRYC). After college, Alan spent several months traveling through Europe, and returned to marry the love of his life, Judith Raymond Abercrombie. He attended the University of Bridgeport to participate in courses to sit for the CPA exam. During this study period, he worked with two local CPA firms. He then joined Price Waterhouse where he remained for five years. He subsequently joined Hubbell, Inc. as corporate tax manager and progressed through several corporate positions to become Assistant Treasurer. After 12 years at Hubbell, Alan left to start his own registered investment firm, Financial Design and Management, Inc. During this time, the family made annual trips to western ski resorts as well as three years skiing in Austria. Thirty-seven summers were spent on Long Island Sound and local waters on their sailboat "Finally" and Nordic Tug "Sea Wolf." Judy and Alan enjoyed traveling in the off season to Europe, and reestablishing contact with Alan's German Family. Alan and Judy have lived in Easton for 51 years where they raised their children, Paul Joseph Goldbecker II and Lisa Abercrombie Goldbecker. While in Easton, he served for 17 years as Treasurer of the Aspetuck Land Trust Inc., over 20 years on the Easton Fire District #1 and for 20 years served on the Easton Pension Commission. He grew up at Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport and was a member of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church at the time of his death. During his affiliation with BRYC, he served on many operational committees and ultimately became Commodore. In addition to his wife, Alan is survived by his children, Lisa Goldbecker and Paul Goldbecker II; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Stack Goldbecker; one grandchild, Norah Stack Goldbecker; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Despite serious health setbacks and challenges in his final year, he faced them with humility and grace. Our heartfelt thanks to Gabby, Gloria, Amanda, and Yolanda for all the wonderful help and care given to Alan. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church.
