Obituary of Gyorgy Meszaros

Gyorgy ( George ) Meszaros Jr, age 80, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Eva Schlitt Meszaros, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017. He was born on April 15, 1936 in Dorog, Hungary. Following the Hungarian uprising he fled his home in Hungary and immigrated to the United States in 1957. He was a resident of Fairfield for the last 46 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1958-1963. Besides his time in the army he worked for the R.A. Lalli Co since 1957, retiring as Director of Operations. He also served as a Special Police officer for the Fairfield Police Department from 1981-2001. In his youth, George was very athletic. He competed in Greco-Roman wrestling and soccer. He was also an avid sky diver, outdoorsman and flew gliders. He enjoyed woodworking and was a master metal crafter. He was greatly involved in restoring and mounting the WWII Corsair that stood at Sikorsky Airport. George also hand made the family cradle that each of his six grandsons used. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he most of all enjoyed the times that he spent with his family. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his loving wife Eva for 54 years, survivors include his sons, George III, Endre and his wife Beth, Gabor and daughter in law Jennifer Kolbusz, his precious grandsons, Gabor Jr and his fiancee Abby Huhtala, Joshua, Jacob, Nicholas, Peter and Benjamin, who were his pride and joy, a sister Anna Majtenyi, and two nieces in Hungary. He was predeceased by his brother Laszlo, and two nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am DIRECTLY at St. Emery's Church, 838 King's Hwy, Fairfield. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bridgeport Police Explorers or F.U.N. (Families United Newtown), an organization that hosts events for special needs children.
