Obituary of Cristina DeAguiar

Please share a memory of Cristina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, Cristina, a devoted mother, wife, and friend, passed away at sixty-one. Cristina was born on August 10, 1961, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Daughter of parents Francisco Barbosa De Freitas and Hilda Maria Da Rocha. Beloved sister of Salete Barbosa De Freitas. She is survived by her husband, Jorge; her children, Barbara and Lincoln; and her siblings, Carmen, Celia, Antonio Carlos, and Augusto Cesar. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1282 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06608. Cristina was best known for her unique sense of humor, generosity, and fierce determination. She was an avid gardener; often spending her days growing everything from tomatoes to tulips. She took pride in her plants and shared her love of gardening with close friends and family. She also had an immense love for fashion, noticeable by her expanding collection of clothes and accessories. She enjoyed dressing up and going out. She often recounted stories of mischievous teenage adventures. During one of her teenage outings, she met the love of her life and future husband, Jorge DeAguiar. After years of dating, they married at the courthouse in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the same year welcomed their son, Lincoln. Several years later, they welcomed their daughter, Barbara. She worked as an accountant for years but was fiercely determined to move to the United States. Unknowingly to some, she traveled alone and started work on her American dream. A few months later, Jorge would join her, working diligently together to find an apartment. Her determination didn't dwindle and together they purchased their first home in 2001. She had an amazing sense of humor, and a sharp wit and was known to say the most unique and brazenly honest things. Cristina made her family laugh with her unique stories and silly ways. She loved her family despite their eccentricities and dysfunction. Cristina worried about them, cheered for them, protected them, fought with them, forgave them, and always loved them. She was kind, generous, and caring. She offered to help anyone in any way she could; from cooking a friend a hot meal when they were home sick to helping babysit her grandchildren whenever possible. Cristina most of all had a love of life and a determination to live. In her lifetime she battled breast cancer, congestive heart failure, wore a heartmate, and received a heart transplant. She was determined to live life regardless of circumstances. When her grandchildren came along, it began a whole new chapter for her. She naturally took on the role of the doting grandmother, gifting her grandchildren every chance she could and taking part in their upbringing. They had sleepovers, messy crafting sessions, and extravagant dress-up times that will never be forgotten. Cristina will be deeply missed by all those she left behind. Our hearts are broken by her passing. She was a unique and beautiful soul and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
