Obituary of Joseph Poruban

Joseph Charles Poruban, age 89 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 19, 2023.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Handy & Harman, where he worked as a Quality Control Engineer for 45 years.  Joe’s true loves were his wife Barbara, his family, and his Church.

Joe devoted his life to helping others, and his family was the most important thing in his life.  He was predeceased by siblings Elizabeth Poruban, Alexander Poruban, Barbara Friedman, Ann Brelsford, and Helen Sanville.  He is survived by Barbara his loving wife of 65 years, brother Bill, daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Richard Visinski, and four grandchildren Richard Visinski, Jr., Dr. Jacquelyn and husband Dalton Daniel, Victoria Stark, and Nicholas and wife Alicia Visinski, and several nieces and nephews – each of whom he cherished.  

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to caregivers Trish, Maggie, Ryan, and Ruth and the Hospice staff members who cared for Joe.  He served as the Chief Elder of the United Church of Christ, Bridgeport for 45 years, where he, wife Barbara and their second family, the congregation, created countless hours of service to others and wonderful memories together.

A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, May 24.  Family and friends may gather in the Church, at 2180 North Avenue, Bridgeport, at 10 a.m. until the Church service at 11 a.m.
