Obituary of James E. Coyne

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Edward Coyne, born on May 12, 1967, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family, on June 17, 2023 after a long courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer. Jim was born and raised in Bridgeport and later lived his adult life in Trumbull. He leaves behind his devoted parents, Ed and Betty Coyne of Trumbull, and his beloved daughter, Courtney Casey, and her husband, Brian, of Shelton. His step-children, Fernando Cortinhas, of Trumbull and Monique Fig, of Monroe; and step granddaughter, Gianna Cortinhas. His loving sisters, Eileen Ferrigno, and husband, Anthony, of Stratford and Patty Maitland, and husband, James, of Florida. His four cherished nieces, Kaitlyn Fernandez (her husband Victor, and daughter Myla) and Kelly Maitland all of Florida, and Alanna and Julianna Ferrigno of Stratford. He also leaves behind many treasured cousins, who have been incredibly supportive, as well as several very dear friends. Jimmy graduated from Notre Dame High School in Fairfield and went directly to work at the family business, Coyne's Carpet Inc. in Bridgeport, for the next 38 years. He was an extremely talented flooring installer as well as a master carpenter. Jim was an expert and perfectionist in all aspects of his crafts. His talents were limitless, including sheetrock, plumbing, welding, and automotive body work. If you knew Jimmy, then you knew he loved to talk, usually for way too long, but his willingness to be the first to arrive in your time of need was unrivaled. He was an avid collector of tools and was prepared to fix anything for anyone who needed help. Jimmy very much enjoyed the outdoors doing landscaping and especially on tree-work. In his younger days, he loved camping and going out on his boat fishing and he also had many great times motorcycling in the woods with his daughter, Courtney. More recently, he would spend countless hours watching nature shows like Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel, but nothing pleased him more than cooking for family holiday celebrations where he always sat at the kids table. He will be remembered for his crystal blue eyes, big beautiful smile, spot on impersonations and hysterical sense of humor. The family would like to thank Dr. Nasreen Malik at Smilow, the amazing nursing staff at Bridgeport Hospital and everyone at Constellation Hospice for their incredible kindness and wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cause that was near and dear to his heart, the Bridgeport Animal Control Shelter, because Jimmy loved, and was always loved, by every dog he ever met. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Saint Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, CT. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull, CT
