Obituary of Themis P. Hios

Please share a memory of Themis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Themistocles ("Themis") P. Hios, a longtime resident of Old Greenwich, CT, and later Fairfield, CT passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at age 96.

Themis was born on February 8, 1927, in the village of Tripi, Spárta, Attiki, Greece, to Vasiliki and Panayiotis Hios. He arrived in the United States in 1955 with very little money and resided in New Jersey where he found work as a dishwasher. His favorite story from that time was how he monitored the scales of deliveries and discovered the owner was being cheated! That earned him a well-deserved promotion. It was also in New Jersey at an English School Christmas dance that he met his bride, Elfriede, and after a six-year courtship and both having to learn English, they married in 1963, moved to Greenwich and went on to have three wonderful sons.

He was a proprietor of The Greenwich Restaurant on Greenwich Avenue which was one of the first restaurants on the Avenue and Shore Points Diner in Norwalk. He was a Shriner with the Masons and a member of the AHEPA. Themis' greatest achievement was his family who he adored and cherished. He was at every game, concert, dance recital and graduation and took such pride in their accomplishments. His children and seven grandchildren who were his pride and joy will miss him terribly.

He was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 50 years, Elfriede (nee Brandl) Hios; his brother, Theodore Hios, whom he worshiped; as well as six older siblings. He is survived by his sons, Anton Hios (Karen) of Rye, NY, Peter Hios (Jennifer), and Ted Hios (Amy), both of Fairfield, CT; and grandchildren, Alexis Hios, Sara Hios, Jake Hios, Megan Hios, Nicholas Hios, Zachary Hios, and Kyle Hios.

His generosity, love for family and achievements in life and business will forever be an inspiration. As Themis said, "you can be rich in money, but nothing is more important than being rich in Family!".

Themis' family will receive family and friends on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
