Obituary of Susan McPadden

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Susan McPadden, age 87, of Fairfield, beloved wife of 52 years to the late Dr. Edward McPadden, passed away at home on Saturday, December 23, 2023, with her loving family by her side.

Born on May 24, 1936, in Bridgeport, Sue was the daughter of the late Thomas and Eileen Flahaven Donnelly. She was employed by The Southern New England Telephone Company prior to starting a family. Sue volunteered as a religious education instructor at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish for many years and co-directed the summer Vacation Bible School. In her later years, Sue returned to the workforce as a secretary at Sacred Heart University, from which she retired after many years of service. She was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport.

More than anything, Sue cherished the time spent with her family, especially drive-in movies, duckpin bowling, family holiday gatherings, and family picnics at Longbrook Park in Stratford and later Owen Fish Park in Fairfield. Sue was faithful to the rosary, gathering monthly with her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law to recite the rosary at their family Rosary Group. In her later years, Sue was blessed with very close relationships with all her grandchildren and enjoyed telling them funny stories from her past and hearing their funny stories in return. She took great interest in their lives, prayed for them daily, and offered words of wisdom. Sue always enjoyed a good laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She came to have a special affection for the family pets: Callie, Daisy, and Muffin. Sue received so much joy from the simple things in life.

Sue is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Edward McPadden, and is survived by her four children, whom she loved with her whole heart: Martin McPadden, and his wife, Misty, of Miami, FL, Edward McPadden, and his wife, Mary, of Shelton, Mary Lynders, and her husband, Michael, of Shelton, and Michael McPadden, and his wife, Laura, of Fairfield. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Catherine McPadden, of Beacon Falls. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, whom she cherished greatly, Amanda and Daniel McPadden; Grace and Kate McPadden; and Michael, Amy, and Codi Lynders. She had many nieces and nephews. Sue is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Eileen Flahaven Donnelly; her brother, Thomas Donnelly; and sister, Margaret Weissauer.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dhanjal of Hartford Healthcare for never giving up on her and the nurses at the Hartford Healthcare Infusion Centers for their special care.

Friends may greet her family on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. DIRECTLY in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the works of The National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia,1166 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19146. Donations may also be made online Saint Rita Shrine.
