Obituary of Jennifer C. Moorin

Please share a memory of Jennifer to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jennifer Cameron Moorin, friend, philanthropist and professional trailblazer for working moms, died after a brief illness on January 13th, 2024, two days after her 87th birthday.

Beloved wife of sixty-two years to Herb, Jennifer was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to William Angus Cameron and Lolita Lofgren Cameron. Jennifer was educated for two years at Swarthmore College before deciding to transfer to the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She graduated from the latter Phi Beta Kappa and received the Edna Kernwood Glicksman award given to the outstanding senior woman.

After graduating, she moved east to study at the Harvard-Radcliffe Business Program (Harvard Business then accepted males only). It was there she met Herb at a party when she took his seat and eventually convinced him to bring her a beer. Herb and Jen married and moved to the Bridgeport area in 1962 and raised their family in Trumbull and Fairfield, where she worked a combined 55 years in Human Resources.

She started the brand-new personnel department at Bridgeport Hospital, and then moved to Citytrust and Danbury Hospital. Always wanting to give back to the community, she served on the Fairfield Health Commission and the Child & Family Guidance Center Board of Directors. Last May, Jen was awarded the Cay White Outstanding Achievement Award honoring her 45 years of volunteer service. Ever wry, she did not want to be recognized for the actual fifty years of service, which would make her seem old.

Jennifer's warmth, common sense, community spirit and sense of humor will be missed. Passing these traits to her children and grandchildren leaves us with a lasting legacy and treasured, loving memories.

In addition to Herb, Jennifer is survived by her sister, Ann Cameron (Geoff Ward); four children, Catherine Kortlandt (Chris), Jennifer Anne Moorin, Sara Lang (Peter), and Howard Moorin (Jen Craft); five grandchildren; and two great granddaughters. She also leaves behind too many beloved friends to mention.

Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport, 275 Huntington Road, Stratford, CT 06614 on July 11, 2024.

Donations in Jennifer's memory may be made to The Child & Family Guidance Center at www.CFGuidance.com or 180 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604, Attn: Michael Patota, President.

The next Greater Bridgeport Symphony concert will be dedicated to Jennifer, Flute Fusion | Greater Bridgeport Symphony (gbs.org)
