Obituary of Joan P McGillicuddy
Joan Costello McGillicuddy, 92, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, in her home with her loved ones by her side.
She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1931. After graduating from Emmanuel College, she relocated to Fairfield, Connecticut with her husband, Thomas, who had taken a position at Fairfield College Preparatory School.
Most importantly, Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was married to the love of her life Tim for over 65 years, and was an incredibly loyal and dedicated wife. She was proud to be a homemaker that raised four children who were her entire world, and grandmother to nine grandchildren, all of whom she was close to, absolutely adored and was extremely proud of.
Joan was a beloved member of the Fairfield community, having lived there for over 60 years. She also loved visiting her summer home in Rhode Island with Tim, and generously shared their home with family and countless friends. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events, enjoying her daily coffee and biscuits, watching the news as well as playing piano and singing. She was also looking forward to celebrating the weddings of two of her grandchildren – Madison and Katie – to their fiancés this summer.
She leaves behind son Steve of Fairfield, son Brian and his wife Celeste of Trumbull, daughter Cathy and her wife Marikate Murren of Westerly, and son-in-law Tim Foley of Milford.
She is predeceased by her husband Tim, daughter Patty McGillicuddy Foley, her father and mother, Thomas and Elizabeth Costello, and her sisters Betty Shea and Jean Tivnan.
Joan, also known as 'Meme' to her grandchildren, was known for her sense of humor, gentle hugs and being a beautiful piano player and vocalist. She will be missed by each and every one of them, and they will always think of her any time they hear 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow': Kathleen McGillicuddy Regula and her husband Matt of Fairfield, Michael McGillicuddy of Fairfield, Erin Foley Tobitsch and her husband Steve of Trumbull, Christine Foley and her boyfriend Tim Pisarik of Brooklyn, Katie Foley and her fiancé Jay Nunes of West Hartford, Madison McGillicuddy and her fiancé Sean Fitzgerald of Charleston, and Dani, Max, and Callie McGillicuddy all of Trumbull. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren who she adored: Madison, Riley and Peyton Regula, and Ryan, Christopher and Bryce Tobitsch. She will be greatly missed by the many who loved her.
Friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 23rd at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Her burial will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield. For travel directions or to sign her online guest register, please visit www.LeskoFuneralHome.com.
