Obituary of Patrick J. O'Reilly

Please share a memory of Patrick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Patrick J. O'Reilly, age 87, of Southport (formerly of Darien), died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born in Corlough, Co. Cavan, Ireland to Patrick and Kathleen (nee Daly) O'Reilly.

Patrick is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen O'Reilly (nee Keegan), of almost 59 years, and seven children, Michèle Oricoli (Steve), Joanna Quinn (Tom), Rosemarie (Roisin) McAdams (John), Patrick (Julie), Martin (Danielle), Barry (Kaitlyn), Brendan (Tara); sisters- in-law, Christina Clohosey (Richard) and Anne Tierney (Thomas). Affectionately known as "Pop Pop", he was adored by his 20 grandchildren, Brenna, Jack, Kevin, Nicholas, and Katrina Oricoli; Morgan and Tommy Quinn; Mairead, Maeve, and Sean McAdams; P.J., Keegan, Megan, and Kiera O'Reilly; Maggie, Gavin, and Emily O'Reilly; Cian O'Reilly; Declan and Tierney O'Reilly. Patrick is also survived by his sisters, Lily O'Brien and Kathleen O'Reilly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to his parents, Patrick and Kathleen O'Reilly, Patrick is predeceased by his sister, Dymphna Clune (Jim).

Patrick had sparkling blue eyes, was joyful and helpful to all, infusing each moment with his playful spirit and imagination. He was employed at United Parcel Service for 30 years, with a perfect driving record, and served as a shop steward for most of that time. He advocated for others, protecting all workers' rights. After only two weeks of retirement, he answered an ad for Kaster Moving Company. He worked at Kaster for 20 years, thoroughly enjoying his time there.

A special thanks to AccentCare Hospice - Sarah, Andrea, Jessica, Jen, and Marie. Patrick's legacy of love and kindness will carry on in those he impacted. While his passing leaves a void in our hearts, his spirit will forever live on in the memories we hold dear. And as he closed every conversation and visit ... "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
