Peter M. Costulas, age 93, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Florence Babiana Costulas for 71 years, passed into eternal rest on January 22. He was born on April 27, 1925 in Blackstone, MA, the son of Michael and Jenny Fatsy Costulas. "Pistol Pete," as he was known at Bassick High School, played baseball and basketball, was selected to the All-State basketball team, and, in later years, was an avid golfer and racquetball player. Graduating in 1943, he served with the Army 4th Engineer Special Brigade stationed in New Guinea, was awarded a Bronze star for the invasion of the Phillipines and took part in Japan occupation forces in at the end of WW II. Returning home he attended Jr College of CT then worked for the Post Publishing Co., IBM and founded Sperco Typesetting, Inc., which allowed him to create many program books and projects for his church. A lifelong member of St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, Costulas was involved in all aspects of church life, serving as president of Sunday School, Mac-AROY youth group, the Parish Council, Retirees Club and coached the Inter Church youth basketball team. He was a retired member of the Society Farsarotul and in 2017 was honored by the church for his many years of devoted service. In addition to his beloved wife, Pete is survived by his daughter, Mary Jennifer of Fairfield and goddaughter Mary Elizabeth Cipu of Southport. He was predeceased by two sisters, Despa and her husband Nicholas Cipu of Fairfield and Ellen and her husband Theodore Andry of Fairfield, and nephew Robert L Cipu. He is survived by nieces Marie Cipu Agostin and husband Dr. Domenick, Elaine Cipu Turek and husband Richard, nephew David Andry and his wife Jacquie, Cyndee Andry Sorrentino and husband George. He also had a special relationship with niece Beverlee Fatse Dacey and late husband Gowan, and was a "great" uncle to A. Peter and his wife Alexandra, Alexander G., Nicolas G. Dacey and Marica Dacey Ancona and her husband Blaise. In addition, he will be missed by many other loving nieces and nephews and everyone will miss his wit and sense of humor. He loved all types of music, especially Bing Crosby, and thanks the Red Sox for winning the World Series in his lifetime. Rite of Christian burial will be on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton with the Rev. Fr. George M. Coca officiating, followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 27 from 3 pm to 6 pm with Trisagion services at 5 pm at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church.
