Obituary of Anne V. Ruellan

ANNE RUELLAN January 31, 1936 to May 28, 2024 Anne Ruellan passed away of a heart attack on May 28, 2024 at the age of 88 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Anne is survived by her sons, Peter (Fran) and Brian, and her daughter, Simone (Doug) and her twin grandsons, Mark and Paul. She is predeceased by her husband, André (passed in 2012) and tragically for a mother, her eldest daughter, Jeanette, losing her battle with cancer just this past March, 2024.

Anne was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, B.W.I.

The middle child of 15 siblings, in 1953 she immigrated to Toronto, Ontario on her own at the tender age of 17. While employed as a secretary she met her future husband André who was working at the same company. She married André in 1957 and, as was the custom then, became a housewife when she bore four children.

The family lived in Scarborough, Ontario until 1965, when they moved to Pierrefonds, Quebec and then to Paris, France in 1970. In 1975, the family moved from France to White Plains, New York, where Anne resided for decades and for a while worked In NYC as a bookkeeper for Andre's company, Design Team Ruellan, before they eventually closed the business and the two of them moved to their final home in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1999.

Needless to say, Anne Ruellan acquired a taste for traveling and thoroughly enjoyed vacations around Europe while the family resided in Paris, despite having to pack up and drag around four young children. As her children became independent while living in the USA, she would escape to various exotic destinations by accompanying her husband on his international business trips. She even managed to travel several times on her own (tours) after his passing but before her stroke in 2018, which required a triple by-pass operation, bringing her traveling days to an end. However, the trips she had enjoyed most of all were the yearly trips to the Toronto area to visit her siblings, nephews and nieces and old friends from St. Vincent.

Anne loved sending cards and gifts to relatives and her grandsons and making sure everyone stayed connected. She even played matchmaker for one of her nieces!

She was naturally creative and had a flair for interior decor, making holiday decorations from items found around the house and yard. She often read articles or watched food programs for recipe ideas to fulfill her love of cooking, but always added her special touch to make it her own!

Anne was a nurturing mother and also a natural caregiver, helping with the care of her twin grandsons on and off for the first two years of their lives and nursing her husband through eye surgeries and the cancer that eventually claimed his life.

She touched the lives of most everyone in her large family and they will all miss her dearly.

There will be a cremation but no ceremony as per her wishes. Eventually, her ashes will be scattered where those of André were spread 12 years ago, in Long Island Sound off the coast of the 'St. Mary's By The Sea' subdivision where she lived.
