Obituary of Ethel Wuennemann

Ethel Ray Wuennemann, age 84, of Fairfield, wife of the late Ronald Brown Wuennemann, Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2017. Born and raised in Bridgeport, daughter of the late John and Clara Evonits Ray, Ethel lived in Fairfield for most of her life. She had worked for Grants, Bullards, McKessons and most recently for the Weston Group of Westport until her retirement. Ethel was a devout catholic and very active parishioner of the Holy Cross Church, where she served on the Parish Council and Ladies Guild, was a church usher and lector as well as a willing volunteer for all church functions. In her youth, Ethel enjoyed playing softball and later traveling to Europe with her friends, watching Jai alai matches and the occasional trip to the casino. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughter Celeste Barros and her husband Robert of Cheshire, sons Ronald Wuennemann Jr and his wife Nancy of Woodbury and Thomas Wuennemann and his wife Jamie of Stratford. She leaves behind her precious grandchildren Ronald Wuennemann, III, Sarah Wuennemann Peschier, and Rachel and Margaret Patton and Anastasia and Tanner Barros and Lauren Kremheller and Marissa Wuennemann, a brother John Ray and his wife June of Danvers, MA as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Satmary and Helen Turey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am DIRECTLY at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Dr., Fairfield with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church. The Wuennemann family wishes to thank the nurses and nurses aides of the Chelsea unit of Cambridge Manor for the wonderful care that Ethel received during her stay.
