Obituary of Louisa Conte
Louisa Quintina Conte, 100 years, 7 months and 20 days, of Fairfield, CT, peacefully passed away on April 20, 2019 surrounded by love and the soothing chants of her beloved Latin Rosary prayers.
Louisa was born on August 31, 1918, in Lucas County, Iowa to Italian immigrants, Amelia Gesiotto and Primo Conte. At a young age, her family returned to live in Italy where she eventually married and had three children, Alex, Amelia, and Anna; however, America was always in her heart, beckoning for her big return. As a true visionary matriarch, Louisa bravely headed back alone to the United States shortly following World War II so that she could build a better life for her entire family and provide a better future for them. A pioneer career woman and entrepreneur, Louisa became a successful restauranteur and ran her Manhattan restaurant, Steak Pommes Frites, for 27 years.
Louisa had a passion for travel, gardening, knitting and picking the next great stock; however, her greatest passion was being in the presence of her family and friends. She loved a good party!
She was known as “Grandma Louisa” to everyone that knew her, and her presence will be missed immensely.
Louisa is survived by her devoted children - Alex Conte, Amelia Percudani and Anna Huttmann (Robert). She was blessed with 12 grandchildren – Louisa Percudani, Carol Lake (Ron), Richard Percudani (Carmen), Stephen Percudani (Schellie), Paul Percudani, Frank Conte, Tina Conte (Jim), Petra Conte, Alex Conte (Jen), Paul Conte (Marlo) and Mark Huttmann (Danielle).
Her 9 great-grandchildren include Alexander Percudani (Elin), Christian Lake, Sean McPherson, Jimi McPherson, Ben McPherson, Ava Huttmann, Amelie Huttmann, Grace Conte and Nicholas Conte. Nephews include Joseph Conte, Emilio Conte and Richard Conte. Louisa was predeceased by her sister Mary Gesiotto and her brothers Domenic Conte, Americo Conte and Italo Conte; Grandson Anthony Percudani; Son-in-law Richard Percudani; Daughter-in-law Sigrid Conte; Grandson-in-law Russ Symmes; Nephew John Conte, and many more dear family members and friends who are celebrating with her in heaven.
Family and friends are invited to meet directly at Saint Pius X Church for her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday April 24th at 11 AM. The interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours have been omitted.
