Obituary of Stephen G. Hutvagner

Stephen Gabriel Hutvagner, age 93, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Ruth Tabaka Hutvagner, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. Born in Stratford on May 13, 1923, son of the late Ignatius and Anne Czech Hutvagner, Stephen was a life-long resident of Fairfield. He was a 1941 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and attended the University of Bridgeport and Sacred Heart University. Steve was a Corporal in the United States Army serving in the Medical Corps at Cambridge Hospital in Oxford, England during World War II, until the war was over. This is where he met his soon to be wife, Ruth, and they were married for 70 years until her passing on February 24th of this year. Stephen was a Corporate Accountant for Hubbell Inc. in Orange CT and for CBS in New York City. He was very active at St. Emery's Parish and was a past President of the Holy Name Society. He was also active at Notre Dame High School in Fairfield and was a past President of the high school's Father's Club. He was also active in Junior Achievement of Greater Bridgeport. Steve was an avid coin and stamp collector and landscaper who loved to do yard work. He is survived by 4 children, Robert Sweet of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Lawrence Hutvagner and his wife Donna of Beacon Falls, CT, Ann Walsh and her husband Richard of Beacon Falls, CT and Stephanie Maltz and her husband L. Richard of Fairfield. Stephen is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Walsh, Matthew Hutvagner, Cara Fortier, Timothy Hutvagner, Emily Hutvagner and Rachel Maltz as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Alexander Fortier and Colin and Liam Hutvagner. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with burial to follow with Full Military Honors in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, Ct. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Hwy, Fairfield Ct 06825.
