Robert Alexander Anderson, Jr., aged 81, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, following a brief illness.
Bob, as he was known to most who knew him, was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York on November 9, 1938, to Mary McGinigle Anderson and Robert Alexander Anderson, Sr., and was raised in nearby Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester County. He graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Chemistry, and went on to work for General Foods Corporation for over 30 years, starting as a technician, and retiring in 1995 as Director of Research and Development for the Food Service division. He worked on research for various familiar food and beverage products, such as Kool-Aid, Cool Whip, Cycle dog food, and Maxwell House coffee. His daughters' favorite project though was Pop Rocks, which he brought home for them before they were released onto the market.
After retiring, Bob and his wife Lillian settled in Connecticut, and also had homes in Charlestown, Rhode Island and Naples, Florida. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and going to the beach, where he taught his daughters and grandchildren how to ride the waves. He also enjoyed working with his hands, often enlisting his kids and grandkids to spend an afternoon working on a project together; he volunteered his time to manage the approval and installation of a municipal water system in his beach community of Quonochontaug, Rhode Island.
Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian (Casale) Anderson; his four daughters, Lauren Stewart (Wade), Robyn Anderson (Felipe Alvarez), Wendy Anderson-Brachfeld (Ken), and Allison Anderson; and his nine grandchildren, John Stewart, Molly Brachfeld, Lexie Malico, Scott Stewart, Ben Brachfeld, Jake Territo, Sage Territo, Aaron Territo, and Avery Territo.
