Obituary of Gwendolyn Y. Fields

Gwendolyn Y. Fields, age 73, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2020 at home with her loving family by her side. Gwen's memory will be cherished by her sons, Walter and Reginald Fields; grandchildren, Nyasia Nelson, Azmar Fields, Lamar Fields, Aliyah Kelley and Samaya Fields; great grandchildren, Aniya Nelson, Nyzaire Nelson, Azmar Fields Jr. and Kamari Fields; mother, Roberta Slaughter; sisters, Bessie Slaughter, Janet Slaughter, Cheryl Higgins, and Karin Edwards and her husband, Raymond; brothers, Alton Slaughter, Reginald Slaughter, and his wife, Brenda, and Randy Slaughter; her former husband Walter Fields Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Gwen was preceded in heaven by her father, Purchase Slaughter and grandson, Rahim Minkins. Born in Stockbridge, Ga., and raised in the Bronx, NY, Gwen had resided in Mount Vernon, NY, before returning to the Bronx and finally moving to her Fairfield home. She worked in many professions, most recently as a data entry clerk at Wells Fargo Bank. Gwen loved to knit, crochet and complete crossword puzzle books. She is known for creating humorous and inventive nicknames for her loved ones and always speaking her mind. Gwen loved her family and friends and was most passionate about caring for her children. She touched many in her life and will be remembered with great fondness. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 9th, from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, with her service in the funeral home at 12 PM and burial in Mountain Grove Cemetery to follow.
