Obituary of Joan L. McCann

Joan Lucille Mitchell McCann, age 85, of Montauk, New York, beloved wife of David J. McCann, passed away on June 1, 2017 in Bridgeport Hospital. In addition to David (NYPD Detective, Ret.), her devoted husband of 51 years, Joan will be remembered by her son, David D. McCann and his wife Carolyn; two cherished grandchildren, Claire and David P. McCann; her brother, Joseph Mitchell; sister-in-law, Mary Lipari; brother-in-law, Dennis McCann; several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and LuLu MacNamara Mitchell; one brother, Brian Mitchell; and several in-laws. Having lived in Brooklyn, New York, for much of her life, Joan enjoyed frequent visits with family and friends in Connecticut, and was a resident of Montauk for 13 years. She was a retired supervisor for AT&T (now Verizon Communication). A dedicated loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan's greatest joy and life focus was her family. She volunteered her time and talents to her son's Cub Scouts Pack, Boy Scouts Troop, and later to the King's Point Parent's association. While her son was earning his Eagle Scout, she helped with a BSOA project to assist the mentally handicapped. An amazing cook, she would create delicious meals for her family with the fresh catch from her husband and son's fishing excursions. She liked to garden and was a member of the Brooklyn Botanical Association. Memories of Joan's kindness to others will be embraced by her family and friends. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place on Monday 10 AM in the funeral home and 11 AM in Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield. Her interment will be private.
