Obituary of Ruth Hutvagner

Ruth Agatha Tabaka Hutvagner, age 96, beloved wife of Stephen Hutvagner, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 24, 2017. She was born in Nashwauk Minnesota on July 6, 1920, daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Perrault Tabaka, Ruth attended Hibbing College in Minnesota and graduated from St. Peter's State Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1941. Ruth then went on to serve her country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Corps at Cambridge Hospital in Oxford, England during WWII through the end of the war in 1945. It was there that she met her soon to be husband, Stephen. After the war the couple settled in the home that they built in Fairfield before retiring to St. Joseph's Manor and more recently Cambridge Manor of Fairfield. Ruth had worked as a Registered Nurse for Norwalk Hospital and Fairfield University until her retirement. She was an avid seamstress, loved reading and took a deep interest in the activities of family and friends. Ruth was a devoted parishoner of St. Emery's Church, a willing volunteer for any Church or school function. She was active in many of the Church groups and was a past President of the St. Emery's Ladies Guild. Ruth was also active in the Bridgeport Catholic Council and the American Red Cross. In addition to Steve, her beloved husband of 70 years, She leaves behind her children Robert G. Sweet, Lawrence Hutvagner and his wife Donna, her daughter Ann Walsh and her husband Richard, her daughter Stephanie Maltz and her husband L. Richard. Also Ruth leaves behind her grandchildren Nicholas Walsh, Matthew Hutvagner, Cara Fortier, Timothy Hutvagner, Emily Hutvagner and Rachel Maltz & their spouses, three great grandsons, Alexander, Liam and Colin as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Nelson and Frances Halchak and a brother Eugene Tabaka. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center, followed by a Full Military burial in the Veterans Cemetery of Middletown, Ct. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 am until the time of services. No flowers please. Any donations should be made to St. Emery's RC Church, 838 Kings Highway, Fairfield CT 06825.
