Obituary of Michael J Csontos Sr.
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael John Csontos, Sr. passed away at age 74, on July 17, 2017. He was born on February 6, 1943, the son of the late Stephen Csontos Jr. and Ann (Lengyel) Csontos. Mike graduated from St. Stephen's grammar school, Fairfield Prep '60, and Bullard Haven's Technical School's auto repair program in 1962. He was a past President of St. Emery's Holy Name Society. He was a founding member of El Poder Caravan #161, International Order of Alhambra, serving as Grand Commander and Deputy Regional Director. Deeply involved with disabled children, he was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Center. Mike was the owner of Csontos Auto Repair Shop in Black Rock. The business was started by his grandfather in the 1920's and Mike was proud to have worked there with his father and to be involved with a family business that lasted almost 90 years. He was a trusted mechanic. Mike had many interests and enjoyed growing and sharing the tomatoes from his garden, going to art exhibits and musical concerts, and riding his motorcycle, touring the state of CT. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Assoc. He was also a season ticket holder of the NY Giants and a fan of UConn women's basketball. He loved to make people laugh - he was a "real character" and definitely "one of a kind". Once you met him you never forgot him. Mike was a proud, lifetime Black Rocker who loved riding around St. Mary's by the Sea on a daily basis to "see if it is still there". He was the self-proclaimed "Donut King" who was always on the search for the best donut. Most of all, he loved his family and was always there for them, helping whenever he could and planning fun times that always included lots of laughs.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet (Popowski) Csontos, his son Michael Jr. and his wife Memi of Fairfield, his daughter Cindy Secula and her husband Joe of Red Bank, NJ, his brother Stephen Csontos III and his wife Juanita of Alexandria, VA, his nephews Andrew and Timothy Csontos and their families, and his granddog Maggie.
