Julian Arell Sohon, Jr., age 95, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Nancy Cotter Sohon, passed away peacefully at home while in the company of his loving family on November 3, 2018.
In addition to Nancy, his devoted wife of 67 years, many wonderful memories of Julian will be embraced by his children, Michael Sohon, of Monroe, Lisa Grauer and her husband Rick, of Fairfield, Sandy Shilling and her husband Warren, of Trumbull, Tucker Sohon, and his wife Jill, of Southington, Libby Nelson and her husband Brent, of San Francisco, CA, Carol Hayward and John Copley, of Orleans, MA, Martha Hellman and her husband Todd, of Fairfax, VA, Pat Tobin and her husband Tim, of Newton, MA; 19 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren, all of whom he cherished. He was predeceased by daughter, Sallie Sohon.
Born in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, to the late Julian Arell Sohon, Sr. and Miriam Van der Zee Sohon, Julian was raised in Bridgeport where he attended Bassick High School. He proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II. A graduate of UCONN (1948) and Fordham Law (1961), Julian was a well-respected attorney at Cotter, Cotter and Sohon, happily retiring in 1988. Julian was a man of many passions. None more so than his devotion to God, love for his wife and family, and loyalty to friends. He and Nancy traveled frequently, enjoyed gardening together, and going for long car rides. He loved woodworking, making cork trivets for hundreds of friends and family, savoring Canadian Whiskey, and watching the Giants, win or lose. An avid follower of UCONN Girls Basketball, he never missed a game. Service to his local community included Eucharistic Ministry, ESL Literacy volunteer, and Mill River Wetlands volunteer. Julian had a tremendous sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him.
The Sohon family would like to express their gratitude and love to Lavern Chavez, Carmen Lopez, and Karen Ziabo for their continued care and devotion.
