Obituary of John Griffin Salek

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Griffin Salek, beloved husband of Linda Partesano Salek, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024 at age 72, after a long illness.

He was born in Passaic, NJ, on November 12, 1951 to the late Ferdinand and Kathleen Salek. John was the epitome of the Scholar-Athlete. A 1969 graduate of Ramapo High School in Wyckoff, NJ, he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He earned numerous honors and was Captain and MVP of the football team his senior year. He was inducted into the Ramapo High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. John continued his football career on scholarship at the University of Connecticut, where he helped the team to 2 Yankee Conference Championships. He received his BS in Business Administration with Honors from UConn 1973, and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the School of Business Honor Society. John remained connected to his alma mater throughout his life by serving as a Career Mentor for the football team.

John and Linda met in 1971 while both UConn students, when he was 19, and she 18. John continued his education at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, earning his MBA in Finance in 1976. He served in various finance positions in his career, retiring as Vice-President & Partner for Genpact, a global business services firm. He published a book and many articles in the field of finance and was a guest speaker at various business conferences. John and Linda were married in 1977.

John loved to talk about sports, military history, and, of course, his family--and all with his signature charm and wit. He will be missed. He was truly one of the "good guys".

John is survived by his wife, Linda, of 47 years; his son, Michael J. Salek, and wife, Elyse (Carlson), of Wayne, PA; grandchildren, Brianna and Bradley; his daughter, Stephanie L. Salek, and husband, Thomas R. Fogarty, of Alexandria, VA; and grandchild, Ryan. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Frederick Salek, and wife Linda, Charles Salek, and wife, Soudi, James Salek, and wife, Diane; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Wake will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT, followed by burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery & Arboretum, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield, CT.
