Obituary of Rowland Coleman, Jr.
Rowland Henry ( "Rod" ) Coleman Jr., age 85, formerly of Weston, husband of Mary Myer Coleman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford, with his loving family by his side. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, son of the late Rowland Coleman, Sr and Esther Keim Coleman, Mr. Coleman was also a descendant of Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a Fairfield resident for most of his childhood and was a Weston resident for nearly 60 years. A graduate of Brown University, Class of 1953, he also attended the University of Virginia Law School and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Finance. Rod served his country for two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent virtually his entire business career with Citibank in Manhattan, retiring as a Vice President. A passionate outdoorsman, Rod enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, sailing and especially gardening, both vegetables and flowers. He was also an avid New York Giants fan. In addition to Mary, his devoted wife of more than 60 years, he leaves behind his son, William Coleman of Newark, VT, his daughter Carole Coleman and her husband Jeffrey Judd of Copake, NY, a brother William H. Coleman and his wife Catherine of Cooperstown, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held privately in the care of the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Audubon Society, the National Parkinson Foundation or the Nature Conservancy.
